City Link Project

As an independent contractor on the CityLink Project, Andrew Ford (Managing Director) is lowering the diving stage into a pylon for divers to start underwater cutting.

Winching a diver into a pylon. Broco cutting the pile from inside out. The pile is 36mm thick and stifter is 44mm thick. This was all cut in zero visibility. The overall job involved cutting 3.5 kilometres of steel.

After cutting, a 40 tonne vibrator is hydraulically clamped to the top of the pile and vibrated out of the mud.

The removal of one of the piles.

A 190 tonne crane on tracks was used to lift the piles with the vibrator attached.

Some of the piles that were cut and removed. The man in the centre of the picture gives an indication of the scale of the piles. Each pile measured approximated 2 metres in diameter by 20 metres in length and were 36 to 44 mm in thickness.
