Project: ROV inspection of the Western Access shaft of the Mersey River tunnel, Devonport, Tasmania.
Using the Pro 3 XE GTO VideoRay ROV, the Dive Works ROV pilot conducted a safety inspection of the Mersey River shaft structure for Cradle Mountain Water. The shaft was too dangerous for divers to inspect, with many snag points along the 42m deep structure. The diameter averaged 1.7m however in parts the shaft narrowed to 500mm X 500mm entry points.
The colour camera on the ROV captured images and data during the inspection. This included inspecting the steelwork and bolts that hold the flanged ends of the riser pipe together, identifying any areas that showed signs of corrosion and assessing the level of silt and build up of materials in the shaft.
The Mersey River is a river on the north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia. The city of Devonport is situated at the river's mouth on Bass Strait.
