Crystal Ocean in Port Melbourne

Project: Diving inspection and repair works on the floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel ‘Crystal Ocean’ moon pool bearing pads.

Dive Works started the project with the removal of the friction bearing pads in the moon pool. All four pads were bolted and welded in place, in order for the face plates to be reused. The Dive Works diver then carefully cut through the welds with a high speed grinder so as not to damage the plates. The pads and shims on all four plates were successfully removed. Each plate weighs approximately 250 kg's. The plates then had new pads and shims fitted by engineers.

The diver then refitted the plates back into the moon pool, one at a time, taking care as they had to be precisely refitted into their original position. The diver then tensioned up all bolts and welded the nut head to the bolts.

A video survey was conducted at the completion of the job.
