Round Tree Hill WWTP

Project: Installation of a subsea runway to accept a 810mm X 200m long effluent outfall at the Round Tree Hill Waste Water Treatment Plant in Burnie, Tasmania.

Stage One.

Dive Works'
divers started work on preparing the runway by drilling and blasting along the reef to create a 220 metres long by 3.5 metres wide clearing. The rubble was then removed to allow for an even, flat seabed. The grey water from the effluent outfall is gravity fed through the pipe, so it was essential that runway be flat, with a constant decline.

The first stage of the project was completed on time and on budget under extremely difficult conditions. Rough weather and rectification works on the existing unsecured section of pipeline tested the divers Underwater Construction skills and endurance.

Stage Two.

Dive Works has been awarded the contract to complete the remaining works on the pipeline, for Cradle Mountain Water. Work on Stage 2 commenced in May 2011. The new pipe and diffusers (weighing approximately 300 tonnes) will be floated into position, coupled up and sunk in a controlled manner, so as to be in the centre of the newly formed runway.

The images below show Dive Works and the surveyor conducting the survey for the where the outfall pipe will lay.
